I probably spent 23 years writing the album and 2 years producing it, so I guess it took a while. Nothing inspired me directly but it dabbles in different looks, early Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, Nick Drake, Pavement. It just pertains to my experience over the last 5 years really, like a diary of sorts. I was very happy when it was released.
Tour has been amazing; the crowds have been amazing and the support for the record has been really strong. Edinburgh was cool because the album came out that day so the vibe was really intimate and full of love. Nottingham surprised me by how many people were there. One of the funniest moments on tour was a momentary pause of the set in Edinburgh to have a brief discussion as to the merits of keeping up with Kardashians. I’ve got lots of festivals coming up - too Citadel, Rock Werchter, Best Kept Secret, Reading/Leeds and Big Weekend!
Previously being in a choir informed my relation to music as being a serious and beautiful thing.
I normally write my music in the bath or in my bedroom mostly. I’ve recently been listening to Car Seat Headrest, Father John Misty, Moses Sumney and just found Baxter Dury he’s great. I love watching films, I spend most of my time watching films or thinking about them in some way. Up next for me is playing more shows and recording album number 2. The songs are mostly there but need to get back into the studio this year.
